Suggested Name: St. Peter’s Rock

Tagline: Become the leader God calls you to be

The image of a rock is an aspirational symbol for who we want to become as men: foundational, steadfast against outside forces, dependable. With St. Peter being named by Christ as the rock, and being the namesake of our church, the symbolism of a rock has a direct tie to our church, the Church, and Christ. There are more layers which I’ve written out in The Meaning of the Name.

Where the symbols come from

The Sacred Heart

Catholic devotion to the Heart of Jesus expresses his love for us. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque helped spread this devotion in the seventeenth century.

Dilexit nos, §§119–122

The carpenter’s hammer

We chose the hammer to recall St. Joseph’s carpentry: honest work, care for his family, and the example he gave Jesus.

Matthew 13:55; Patris corde, §6

The helmet

St. Paul names the “helmet of salvation” among the armor of God. The medieval helmet gives that biblical image a heraldic form.

Ephesians 6:11–17

The sword

St. Paul calls it the “sword of the Spirit,” meaning the word of God. It represents the spiritual struggle against evil.

Ephesians 6:12, 17
